and the walking man walks

the new year has begun, and with that my father and i have already taken 3 nature walks together.
the sand pit
nearby our home there are actually 2 sandpits; one for actual sand "mining" and the other for more recreational uses like dirtbikes. it's about 2 miles from my house to the recreational one, so we headed over to see if there was anything going on. on the way we pass by the transfer station, the place where the town puts all the leaves from streetside leaf collection, some corn and tobacoo fields, a little bit of woods, and a stream. and it appears some people had a nice bonfire to ring in the new year! also shown are my first sunset photos of 2007.

soapstone mountain
dad, mike, and i went to soapstone just to have a look around on a gorgeous 60 degree day. i didn't take many photos but the sky looked particularly interesting (no surprise there!)

east hartford / hartford river walk
i'd never been walking along the CT river in hartford, and my dad had to drop off some papers for a new job in east hartford, so we did that and then found a park where we began our hike on the east side of the river. we then proceeded over the founders bridge, checked out constitution plaza, walked south to the charter oak bridge, and back north to the car. the blue onion building is colt firearms, where my dad had his second job out of college. the next historic looking building is the travelers tower.
