  • tony hillerman: coyote waits, the fallen man, a thief of time
  • john irving: the cider house rules, a prayer for owen meany, the 158 pound marriage
  • kurt vonnegut: sirens of titan, cats cradle
  • rebecca wells: little altars everywhere, divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood
  • dennis lehane: mystic river
  • toni morrison: the bluest eye
  • david james duncan: the brothers k
  • barbara kingsolver: the poisonwood bible
  • ken kesey: one flew over the cuckoo's nest (still in progress)

Have a look at anything by Martin Amis, especially 'Money', "The Information" & "London Fields". You will either love it or hate it.

You can check out Amis's books on Amazon by running a search for him there. Plenty of reader reviews to go through, but remember he tends to polarize readers so some just hate him while others think he's terrific.

I loved The Brothers K. I've read it twice, most recently about four years ago. I think it's time to pick it up again...

Only one suggestion, it's another one to read again and again: Travels With Charley, John Steinbeck.
